Guide to Cool Girl Chic

We have all seen the headlines in fashion magazines: model-off-duty rocks cool-girl chic. Cool Girl Gigi Hadid strikes again with a model-off-duty look!

All of these phrases lead to what it seems like most women/girls are striving for, or supposed to be striving for. The “model-off-duty/ cool girl” style is one of those things that fashion people always talk about. It is an effortless, casual kind of beauty that prompts women from all walks of life to want to understand how to recreate it; myself included. Luckily I have finally cracked the code (or most of it) and I am here to help you create your own version of the “cool girl” look!

First thing’s first: figure out what your aesthetic is going to be. Are you sporty? Are you beachy and bohemian? Edgy? A mixture? I tend to be edgy, beachy, and casual for reference. What it comes down to is I like being comfortable and liking the way that I look at the same time. This is the point of the “cool girl” look. Being comfortable and feeling your best with very little effort. Whatever style you like, you need to get a bunch of basics for your wardrobe. Get a lot of different solid colors that you can mix and match with a lot of different things and multiple colors. You’ll give off the air of “too cool to care” as you strut down the street in your grey body con dress and striking shoes.

The next part of making over yourself with a “cool girl” style is to add in the accessories. A great pair of sunglasses you can toss on at a moment’s notice. Some great, delicate pieces of jewelry to add a little glitz. Maybe even a great purse that goes with everything you can toss on. A great pair of sneakers or boots are also required, both are the best option as always.

Another very important part of the cool girl uniform is beauty. Less is more when it comes to beauty in this way but the statement is important. Either a dramatic winged eyeliner or a pop of color on the lips lets you put a little glam into the effortless portion of the ensemble. A little glam is what every “model-off-duty” look needs. It never hurts to add some messy hair to the mix either, like some messy waves or messy buns. Other than that slap on some mascara and fluff up your brows to call it a day!

The last thing you need to do to have full cool-girl status is to have the right attitude for it. If you love how you look, if you love how you feel, then everyone else will love it too. As long as you bring the sass and the confidence, you will have mastered the “model-off-duty/ cool-girl” look.
