Favorite Met Gala Looks

Ah the Met Gala, my favorite time of year. Usually anyway. The Met Gala is always held on the first Monday in May but this year is being postponed for obvious reasons. Since it would have been held today in normal circumstances, I decided to do a round-up of my favorite looks from the Met Gala over the years! Nothing crazy, but something fun to look at since we don’t get to fawn over new looks this year.

Zendaya in Tommy Hilfiger, 2019

Zendaya can do pretty much anything and look like a princess, but in this dress that lights up once her fairy god-stylist points a magic wand at it, she is positively regal. This costume fully encompasses the meaning of the Camp theme!

Lady Gaga in Brandon Maxwell, 2019

This is a woman who also never disappoints and is always here to show up everyone else around her. Her costume was 4 in 1 that she shed in the first few minutes of the red carpet. Lady Gaga screams Camp and she took it to the next level with this costume. Nothing like this had been done for the Met Gala before this, and it’s hard to imagine anyone ever doing anything better.

Blake Lively in Versace, 2018

Blake Lively is another babe who can do very little wrong, but this gown she wore was exquisite. The theme this year was Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination and she hit the nail on the head. Versace was also the perfect choice to create something for this theme to the point that I wish designers could have more than one celebrity to dress for the gala.

Rihanna in Comme des Garçons, 2017

Most people’s favorite Rihanna Met look is her yellow costume from 2015 but this is my personal favorite. The shoes that lace all the way up, the florals, the makeup! Rihanna is amazing and her Met costumes are no exception. Very few people tie their entire ensemble in like this so she wins.

Gigi Hadid in Tommy Hilfiger and Zayne Malick in Versace, 2016

I don’t usually like Met looks that are this simple, but for some reason, this pair just looks amazing. This theme was about the meshing of technology and fashion so a lot of fun ones came out of this. But I loved the simple gown Gigi wore to pair with Zayne’s complete robot arm. Again, not usually my thing but for some reason, I just love this one.

Emma Watson in Calvin Klein, 2016

While the outward appearance of this ensemble doesn’t seem to match the theme of technology and fashion, she had everything she was wearing made from recycled plastic bottles. Not only did she look gorgeous, but she was making a statement about the future of fashion with it. Emma Watson is very vocal about her passion for fashion, but also her passion to make it more Earth-friendly. She didn’t shy away from her Met Gala look to do it either and I love that.

Taylor Swift in Louis Vuitton, 2016

Again this is another kind of simple look that everyone hated, but I loved it! I think part of it was that Taylor Swift did something so different for her and it looked great. She fell right in line with the technology theme and gave herself an edge that I wish she was still using.

Cara Delevingn in Stella McCartney, 2015

This year’s theme was China: Through the Looking Glass and while it seems simple on the surface, Cara got a massive cherry blossom tattooed on to her for the event. It is a fake tattoo but it still took hours and even went all the way down her leg as her after-party ensemble showed off. I love the commitment and I love tattoos.

Sarah Jessica Parker in Philip Tracey, 2015

Most people hated this outfit and thought her headdress was laughable but I disagree. I thought it was dramatic and regal which is perfect for a queen of fashion like her. She followed the theme so closely and knocked it out of the park. It is so intricate, I just love it.

Dakota Johnson in Jason Wu, 2014

I LOVE THIS DRESS. The sequins, the color, the cut, the gloves I love it! She is gorgeous in this outfit! I can’t say anything more than just how glamorous she looks in this gown.

Thanks for getting through this post! Hopefully it was walking down memory lane with me. I had a lot of fun with it. I am itching for the actual Met, so hopefully they announce that new date soon!
