Whats Worth the Splurge: Beauty

Welcome back, everyone! This week I am doing a little guide to what is worth it when it comes to splurging on beauty products! We are bombarded so often with bloggers and influencers and good old fashioned commercials about beauty products that can cost hundreds of dollars. While I am not an expert, I am on a budget and I know what is worth the extra money from your paycheck, and what is a huge waste of time! I plan on doing a skincare one later on, as well as home decor post and fashion to help you all get the most bang for your buck, while not sacrificing quality. I thought beauty would be a great place to start, especially since there is so much controversy on this specific topic. So let's dive in!

Lowest Price Point- When it comes to makeup, you do not want to be spending the lowest amount possible. It is going on your skin, on your lips, and your eyes.  You do not want to be putting $1 mascara on that is full of chemicals you cannot get off your eyes. You get what you pay for, and while you do not want to pay $100 for makeup, you really shouldn’t be purchasing any makeup that you will be using regularly for a dollar. I would say the lowest price point here is $1-$10. There are two brands that I would say are acceptable to purchase at this price point and that is Nyx and E.L.F. Nyx has great products that are cruelty-free, hypoallergenic, and all the products I have ever used from them have been extremely good quality. E.L.F has slightly less good quality makeup but it is good in a pinch and they also make good quality makeup brushes. There are also some drugstore mascaras (I used to use a pretty good Covergirl one) that are not too bad, but you need to be spending no less than $6 on your makeup form the drug store to know that it is decent quality. It also never hurts to do a little research before going into a beauty purchase to see if they are cruelty-free, the kinds of chemicals they use, etc.

Middle Price Point- This is going to be a larger price range and go from about $12-$40. These are going to be the items you see at Ulta or Sephora and will be just that much better quality. Things you should be buying in this price range are in my opinion, all things for makeup. In my experience, these things are just created better when you put a little money into them. I have fairly sensitive skin so most of my makeup lives in this price point. Things you do not need to buy at this price point? Makeup brushes. I have never understood why people spend a full $50 on one brush. I cannot imagine that there is s huge difference between a $50 and $5 makeup brush. You also do not need to be buying an official beauty blender from Sephora.  The $5 Target ones work just the same. If you are a makeup artist then it would make sense to spend that kind of money on brushes, but otherwise, it is not necessary. Colourpop is a great brand that has some things that live in this price point, but other things (like their super shock highlighters) that are only $6! This is my favorite budget brand, and they are AMAZING quality. Cruelty-free, hypoallergenic, and amazing vibrancy. I am also a fan of Too Faced, which is amazing quality but also stays in the $30 range which is always amazing. I have one Urban Decay makeup palette that was $50 and while I love the colors in, the quality is the same as pallets that cost considerably less. But I would say it was worth the splurge since I have yet find another pallet with those colors. Lime Crime is another great brand at this price point that is amazing quality. Glossier is another brand I am in love with that falls perfectly into this price point.

Highest Price Point- This is everything $50 and above. There are some foundations out there that are $200 and I do not understand why you would purchase something that expensive. The foundation I use is the Amazonian Clay by Tarte. It is amazing full coverage, pretty hydrating, and is relatively inexpensive. When things get to this price point you are paying for the brand name, not the actual product. You are paying for Chanel or Marc Jacobs, not the actual product that you are purchasing. I do not think anything at this price point is worth it when you can get an equivalent for much less.

I enjoyed writing this post for all of you! Hopefully, you enjoyed it too! Thank you for coming back week after week to support this little blog of mine. Big things coming this year!
