An Outfit Full of Old Favorites
Welcome back, everybody! Before we get into the meat of the post, I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who comes back and reads week after week! Things are moving well for this blog and it is because of you guys supporting me! So thank you so much for that, and please keep reading and sharing so that this blog can keep on growing:)
Ok, back to the post at hand! As much as I love fashion and blogging, it is an extremely wasteful profession. I have talked about this in previous posts, but blogging requires you to shoot new outfits multiple times a week with pieces that you can often link so that if followers want to purchase these pieces they can. Being able to link pieces means either linking things that are close, or having to purchase new pieces so that they are available on websites. However, not only do I have a tight budget that doesn’t afford me the ability to purchase new clothing out of pocket regularly, but it is also incredibly wasteful. I have already quoted the statistics in several other posts, but the US contributes 11 million tons of textile waste per year.

A lot of bloggers offset this by selling pieces they no longer wear on sites like Poshmark or Depop to get rid of things without just throwing them out. It adds back into the fashion economy some choices for people to pick from that are thrifted items, cheaper items, and are also contributing less textile waste. I shop on Poshmark and at Buffalo Exchange fairly regularly, and have gotten some amazing pieces from them. Thrifting also allows people who love fashion to buy higher-end pieces at a lower cost that they may not otherwise be able to afford.
My goal is to be successful enough with this blog that I am making money from it and working with brands on the regular. When working with brands they either send you clothing that they want you to shoot and promote, or you pick out the pieces within a certain category that you like and will then shoot. There is also of course buying on your own, but when you are working with brands and getting paid to post about them, it makes shopping and constantly having new pieces easier. Even though this is my goal, I am also working towards replacing items with sustainable items. Reformation is a great website full of beautiful clothing for those who love fashion, but it is all sustainably made and so much of it is made from recycled materials. It is a bit more expensive, but the pieces are built so well that they last longer than the average pieces. It is hard to completely overhaul your wardrobe so you have to do this little by little, and make conscious choices when getting rid of your clothing.
Everything I am wearing in these photos is some of my favorite pieces I got forever ago. The newest pieces are my leather jacket which is about 2 years old, and my boots which are a little over a year old. The sweater is 5 years old and still one of the favorites I have ever owned, the skirt is older than to the point I don’t remember when I got it, and the tights are roughly 3 years old, give or take a little. This is a favorite standby outfit of mine that I can’t believe I hadn’t shot for the bog yet and took the opportunity to do so. There are no active links to these pieces, but I will link some similar items below, along with the brand they are.
Let me know your thoughts below! And please feel free to comment on any other favorite sustainable fashion brands as well!
