Loudest Dressed

When I was a toddler I would run around in a full tule ensemble and a unicorn horn. I was constantly wearing my Disney princess costume and tying my blankets around me like ball gowns. There was a weird little stint in middle school and the first two years of high school where I wore the same sweatshirt sneakers every day, but I have found my way back to the adult equivalent of blanket gowns. My dresser drawers are full of tights with rhinestones, mermaid seashell bras, and socks woven with sparkle thread. I have lace skirts, tiffany teal jeans, platform glitter boots, and t-shirts with bees over the boobs. It is a wide-ranging array of insanity and I love every piece of it. Because of this, I am often the loudest dressed in the room.

Sometimes this is very literal; I own a pair of doc martens that jingle every time I take a step, as well as several jackets that do the same. But often it is just the fact that glitter and lipstick are often involved in my ensembles. Prints, lace and leather mix, boots galore, and crazy colors are always in store for my outfits, even if it is a legging and hoodie day.

This specific outfit is one of my more mellow choices; the loudest part here is the green dress. The leather jacket is one of my favorite pieces and a go-to staple for most outfits. The jacket and the platform oxfords help give this outfit slightly more edge (always necessary) and the dark lip makes me feel powerful in a way that is hard to come by simply by going to class.

I have always been a firm believer in wearing whatever you want, no matter what others say. My mom has always told me “if you believe it, everyone else will.” And I would love to pass that on to all of you, and I hope that’s what you take away from this today: wear whatever you want, even if that means you are the loudest dressed in the room.

The only rule when it comes to fashion is don’t wear the same prints at the same time. No plaid tops and plaid pants, or a floral jacket and a floral dress. Those are the only rules.
