Whats Worth the Splurge: Home Decor

Before we jump into the post I wanted to give a quick warning up top: COVID cases are rising again in almost every state which means that most states can expect to be in lockdown again within the month. People have been throwing parties, not wearing their masks, being idiots with their germs in public, and so much more. Do not gather in large groups. Do not go to super crowded places. Only leave your home when you have to. Be smart about things and WEAR A DAMN MASK! Also, do not, I repeat DO NOT gather on the 4th of July. There isn’t a lot to celebrate this year anyway and no more people can afford to lose their jobs or housing or anything else from this pandemic. So do your part as a decent human and stay home tomorrow. Now on to the main part of this post!

Today I wanted to bring you another splurge post! This time all about home decor. Spending so much time in my apartment over the last few months has made me want to redo the whole thing! Now I am only recently employed again and my job isn’t as a hedge fund manager so I don’t exactly have the cash to burn to redo the whole thing. I am taking a chance that some of you out there are in the same boat and hopefully this post will be able to help you decide what is worth it to redo!

So this is going to be structured a little differently since home decor is very different than beauty or fashion and the pieces tend to last a lot longer. I figured I would do what you should buy at each price point and go from there!

Lowest Price Point- This is going to be everything if you are a college kid, or just out of college. Just save yourself the trouble and buy it all for as cheap as you can and buy nicer things later when you are in a more permanent place. For the rest of you, this is where you are going to want to buy your dishes, glassware, kitchen towels, and silverware. Those are all the same at most price points and the plates you eat off every day are not that important. Ikea makes some great, affordable dishware. Target is great for all of the little knick-knacks you need like a napkin holder, timer, and all the little things like that. If you are more artisanal in your style, go ahead and give these Etsy shops a peak! Still not too expensive but they are made by Black artists and help real people, not just corporations! Check out MilkandHoneyCandleCo , thetrinigee , and Lexiesillustrations.

Medium Price Point- This is where you should be buying your bedding, artwork, and pretty much all other things. I am a firm believer in not spending too much on furniture until you have purchased a home and know you will not be moving anytime soon, but for argument’s sake, pretend you have purchased a home and these are the things you should be buying. Now, most bed frames can be bought at a middle price point and last forever! Same with the bedding to go on the bed. Jungalow is a gorgeous decor brand that is very bohemian and luxurious, but much more affordable than luxury brands. Linoto is a linen bedding, towels, and curtains company that has hopped on the organic linen bedding train and they are doing it great! They are slightly more pricey than I would usually put in the middle zone, but good bedding is hard to find and linen bedding is usually much more expensive so I think it works ok! BLK MKT Vintage is an online vintage store with a lot varying price points so whatever you are looking for can be found at whichever price point you are looking for. Most of the art pieces in my apartment are from society 6, and they have put this together to showcase their Black artists! They have great quality prints, you can purchase any print at any size, and you can even get them framed.

Highest Price Point- This is where you buy couches, dining furniture, and any other statement pieces you know you will want to have no matter what. Lichen is a furniture company based out of NYC that has tons of amazing furniture to pick from! They are pricey, but they don’t have one bad review I can find, so the bet seems pretty safe. BLK MKT Vintage is a great spot for larger items as well! If you just Google “black home decor brands in _____” wherever you live it will give you shops in your area.

Thanks for tagging along! Remember whatever you need to purchase next, shop small and shop Black!
